Cooper Landing, Alaska is located on the Kenai Peninsula about one hundred road miles South from Anchorage down the Seward and Sterling Highways. The drive is one of the most scenic and spectacular on earth. You will see the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, numerous mountains and glaciers, rivers and streams, lakes and ponds, mountains rising directly from the ocean floor, and a virety of wildlife. It is very common to see Eagles, Dall Sheep and Moose. Along the Turnagain Arm you may see Beluga Whales or Killer Whales in Cook Inlet. You might also see Falcons, Swans, Mountain Goats, Porcupines, Lynx, and Bears.
Once in Cooper Landing you will find yourself surrounded by mountains in a recreational and vacation paradise. You will be about five hundred feet above sea level. You can breathe! It is easy to plan a one or two week or longer itinerary in Cooper Landing. Some of the finest road accessible fly fishing rivers available are in Cooper Landing. The Upper Kenai River is located between Skilak and Kenai Lakes. It is largely a non-motorized drift only section of the river with trophy trout regulations, which accounts for trout that can exceed thirty inches. It is also home of the largest road accessible red salmon run in North America. Hundreds of thousands if salmon migrate annually in the Russian and Kenai Rivers to spawn.
There are over twenty hiking trailheads within thirty minutes of the Upper Kenai River Inn. Cooper Landing is located in the middle of the famous Resurrection Pass Trail, which runs north for over forty gorgeous miles to Hope, Alaska and south for over thirty miles to Seward, Alaska. The hiking and biking opportunities are boundless.
There are three different segments of the Upper Kenia River which are rafted for scenic float trips and world-class fishing trips. Cooper Landing is less than an hour drive to Seward, Alaska, home of the Kenai Fjords Wildlife cruises, Sea Life Center, and excellent fishing. Cooper Landing is less than an hour from Soldotna and Kenai, Alaska for fishing in the waters where the world record King Salmon was caught. Huge halibut are also caught an hour and a half away in the Cook Inlet at Ninilchik. Cooper Landing is located at the crossroads to fun on the Kenia Peninsula.
